14th September 2023

On the 13th of September, members of our team participated in a community-led Towpath Taskforce litter picking event held in Park Royal. These events, organised jointly by the Canal and River Trust (CRT) and Groundwork charities, receive partial funding from the OPDC (Old Oak Park Royal Development Corporation).

It was great to have an insight into the charities, and to hear from CRT, Groundwork, and OPDC representatives about ongoing projects aimed at revitalising the canal area. These initiatives involve introducing planters and seating to areas that currently attract anti-social behaviour, with the aim of creating a more pleasant environment and fostering biodiversity.

Our team were happy to have the opportunity to meet a member of the Groundwork team and learn about their Green Space Volunteering programme. Groundwork London, in collaboration with OPDC, is urging local residents and businesses to contribute their time to 'green up' and 'clean up' Old Oak and Park Royal. The programme encompasses various activities, including introducing green elements and biodiversity to areas lacking them, as well as refreshing existing planters and introducing new ones. Expert community gardeners will lead volunteering sessions, providing an opportunity for anyone interested in being part of this community-driven effort.

It’s fantastic to see these projects in action and our team look forward to getting involved in more volunteering days in the future.
